ROCKAWAY is a coming of age drama, following two brothers, John and Anthony in the summer of ’94. They have high hopes of a Knick’s Championship and a new easier life away from their abusive father. They’ve always had just each other and their secrets until they meet a group of boys who show them the love and companionship only achieved through the laughs, sweat, and tears of sport and boyhood mischief.

Director’s bio:

John J. Budion is an award winning writer, director, and visual effects artist with over 15 years of experience in the film and television world. He started out his career at the tender age of 17 while concurrently working towards his degree at New York University.

John’s work can be seen in a campaign for E*TRADE’s 2010 “Talking Baby” spots. Sneaking in his comedic style, the spots debuted during and after the 2010 Super Bowl. Many critics have regarded them as the “funniest” and most “believable” work on the campaign yet!

John recently completed a co-brand campaign with McDonalds and Dreamworks for their feature films Mr. Peabody & Sherman and How to Train Your Dragon 2. With John’s direction, this marked the first time Dreamworks had ever released their animations and characters to a third party for finishing and visual effects. To much acclaim, the spots aired nationally, promoting the films and McDonald’s Happy Meals.

John’s first feature film ROCKAWAY screened at the 2018 Jersey Shore Film Festival, taking home Best Picture and Best Actor. John is currently working on his sophomore feature Civilian Suspicions, which follows a military veteran struggling to adjust to the monotony of civilian life after being deployed back into society.
